Turvey Park Fire and Rescue were called to a vehicle fire at 11.40pm on Wednesday night which was parked right next to a block of units on Bruce Street.
A second unit was deployed to protect the units should they catch alight, and just over half a dozen residents were evacuated.
Firefighters were able to prevent the fire spreading and extinguish the blaze after about an hour, but the car was destroyed.
At 1.45am on Thursday morning, a second call came in for a car fire on Immarna Place, Kooringal.
A Turvey Park Fire and Rescue spokesperson said someone had attempted to set the car alight but the fire had only spread to the guards.
While the car is still driveable, the spokesperson said the damage would still be a "massive inconvenience" for the owner.
The spokesperson said while people often try to assist in containing vehicle fires, it was important for members of the public to maintain a safe distance of approximately 30 metres at all times from a burning vehicle.
