Weir took the honours at the transferred meeting, claiming a winning double courtesy of victories to Crocodile Cod ($1.70) and Foxlike ($51).
Crocodile Cod was sent out an odds-on favourite and gave punters a few anxious moments but fought back after being headed to win the Maiden Plate (1600m).
Foxlike then relished the heavy conditions to take out the XXXX Gold Benchmark 58 Handicap (1200m) second up from a spell.
Crocodile Cod, a maiden from 19 starts, was headed to the spelling paddock before a late change of plans from Weir proved a masterstroke.
"We had him in that 2500 metre race here last Monday and he got balloted out," Weir explained.
"So we said we'd spell him. He's only three and this is only his second prep. That was his 12th or 13th start this prep.
"He had two days at home on the walker before I took him to Noels and the noms had come out and I said to Noel I may as well start him in this mile race on the way through and you can take him home and he'll be in the paddock after the third race. So he'll go for a good spell now with a bit of holiday money."
Owned by Noel Penfold, Crocodile Cod had settled for seven minor placings leading up to Tuesday's maiden win.
Weir has a lot of time for the three-year-old.
"It was overdue I think," he said.
"He's a lovely stayer. He's an awesome type.
"Brodie (Loy) said the other horse went past him and he was gone, but he'll just stay all day.
"He's a big kid, he's only three so he has a lot of racing ahead of him if he stays sound, touch wood."
Weir was caught slightly off guard by the win of Foxlike.
He resumed from a spell at Gundagai last month with a ninth placing but struck second up at Wagga for the fourth win of his career.
"This is his time of year. He won his last couple during this time of year," Weir said.
"I thought he was a bit underdone second up but apparently not. There's no stronger rider than Wardy and he did a good job to get him over the line."
Brendan Ward rode Foxlike to victory, while Brodie Loy was aboard Crocodile Cod.
