Beni knows all too well the challenges of accessing medical care only available in capital cities after she was diagnosed with leukaemia and lupus eight years ago.
Since then, the Ali family have needed to travel frequently to the Sydney Children's Hospital, with Beni still requiring regular appointments for her lupus after beating the leukaemia in 2017.
"When I was sick I know I'd always miss home, miss everything about home like cooking, my family," Beni said.
"I wanted to give back to those kids that feel the same way, I want to give back in every way possible."
For the next two weeks, shoppers can purchase a $2 donation card at Coles supermarkets, with donations funding dedicated oncology child life therapists and remote health specialists to offer web-based services for children living in regional and rural NSW as part of the 'Curing Homesickness' initiative.
Beni said the telehealth appointments she had been able to access had been "a huge helping hand," especially as the coronavirus pandemic complicates travel to major cities.
"It's really cool actually, you can do it from wherever and that's been a huge help, rather than going to Sydney," she said.
Beni's mother Shaleen said accessing online appointments had been much easier, with physical visits to Sydney a time and energy-consuming process.
"Even if it's just a one hour appointment we need two days for the travel to go, come back, school gets missed, work gets missed," Mrs Ali said.
"Having the luxury of staying here and doing everything we do in the hospital obviously is a huge help to everyone in the family.
"Whoever's in the room in her physical appointment is still in the room in telehealth, and everyone still checks and talks to her."
Mrs Ali said she was proud of her daughter for her willingness to advocate for regional children in similar situations.
"I've been proud of her since the day she got sick, because she's probably got more strength than any of us," she said.
