In 2019, the Civic Theatre played host to 140 events, served over 8000 glasses of wine, welcomed almost 50,000 audience members through the door and provided 4900 hours of work for our front of house team. The person behind this busy calendar is our venue coordinator.

Roxy is our resident swan, frantically paddling to keep the ship moving smoothly, whilst looking graceful and carefree on the surface.
It's time for you to get to know... Roxy Smith, venue coordinator.
Started: First in 2003 and then back again in 2018 after a stint in Sydney and the UK.
What do you do at the theatre? I look after venue hire for commercial and community bookings, supervise the front of house team, look after artist and audience requirements for all of the performances, manage the theatre bar and ensure the venue is kept well maintained. That's enough to keep me busy.
When I'm not at work you will find me: Singing with Murrumbidgee Magic Chorus, tending to my ever-growing collection of plants, getting my step count up on the levy walk or stopping to enjoy the sunshine.
Why do you work in the arts? It is a passion I have had since I was a child. A dear drama teacher at high school allowed me to play with the technical elements of performance. It was then I knew that a supporting role was where I needed to be. It has opened up so many career opportunities and I've been lucky to work in some amazing theatres with some inspiring people.
If you were a storybook character who would you be? Matilda. At times I felt like her growing up - minus the awful family life! I always had my head buried in a book. I must have read that book a hundred times. Seeing the stage musical was just amazing.
One thing you can't resist? The feeling of anticipation when the house lights fade out....
How do you define success? To me success is feeling satisfied that you have performed at your best and pushed the boundaries for continuous improvement.
