NAIDOC Week, which would originally have been held this week from July 5-12, will now be marked from November 8-15.
In a statement, the national NAIDOC Week committee said the event had been postponed in an effort to protect elders and members of the community with chronic health issues through the cold weather of July.
The Wagga council will work with local Wiradjuri people and relevant agencies to organise NAIDOC celebrations for the November dates, with no events to be held in July.
The theme for the 2020 event is 'Always Was, Always Will Be,' recognising over 65,000 years of history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia.
