SCARED OF TRUTH COMING OUT
I am writing to you to express my serious concerns at what is happening to our main source of unbiased news. I, of course, refer to the ABC. It seems that our governments are terrified we might actually learn the truth about what is happening in our society and the world at large.

It will be a very sad day for Australia if the ABC is no longer able to keep us informed of the genuine news and not the carefully doctored versions from almost every other source. We must not let this happen.

NOT THE RIGHT TIME FOR RAISE
So, our local councillors are to get a pay rise. But are they worth it? Well, for a start, it is almost impossible to get a response to any correspondence directed at the Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council.
And if you are lucky enough to get a response, it could take up to eight months or even more. Not good enough. And as for asking question of council - forget about it.
Even though they have an obligation to tell ratepayers about the circumstances surrounding the sacking of a former general manager, such as did he repay council all of the ratepayers' money that he had allegedly misused and what was his final payout?
Read more letters:
Although all these things involve ratepayers' money, owing to the council's adherence to their code of silence, we will probably never find out. Again, not good enough. And when you do ask them a question the answer is usually "I'll get back to you". But of course, they don't. And this is where they don't seem to comprehend reality. Despite the expected huge hike in rates, almost on a weekly basis council keeps advertising for more staff. On a per capita basis we must now have more staff than the Sydney City Council!
But apart from all of this they are spending all the government grants on projects that are unnecessary. Case in point - instead of wasting a million dollars on that plastic eye-sore in Carberry Park, couldn't the money have been better spent elsewhere?
Just one example would have been to purchase the old Gundagai Hospital and use it for what council originally intended it to be used for. And what about rebates for pensioners? There has been no movement in this area for over 28 years. Forget the pensioners and other low income earners, we must have more fun parks and playgrounds despite the fact that the ones that we already have are now mostly in a state of disuse. I would like to stress that you cannot paint all of our councillors with the same brush. There are exceptions. However, should they accept a pay rise when their constituents will be struggling to keep up with the predicted rates rises? Definitely not.

RACISM CLAIMS 'AN INSULT'
On Thursday, the US will celebrate Independence Day with a ceremony led by President Donald Trump. When the President increased tariffs on imported goods and increased border security to reduce the number of illegals immigrants with the construction of a border wall, he was accused by many of being a racist.
To label economic decisions that increased employment opportunities for US citizens as racist - and the country as systemically racist - is an insult to those throughout history who have been the victims of truly racist acts.
