The Riverina MP is an avid Australian rules supporter and believes Osborne would prove very competitive in the neighbouring competition.

Osborne will learn their fate at an AFL Riverina board meeting on Tuesday night, after club members voted in favour of the switch last Thursday. Riverina clubs were to provide their feedback by Tuesday.

"I believe Riverina Football League should allow Osborne in, if only for one year," McCormack said.

"They've got a great team...I think they would be more than competitive."

McCormack believes it would be almost against the spirit of the game to deny Osborne entry for the season.

"I think it's up to local football leagues when a neighbouring club doesn't have a competition to play, they should reach out, they should open their arms, they should embrace them," he said.

"This is what football is all about, this is what community sport is all about. I think Osborne would be very, very competitive in the Riverina Football League and it would give the players in the RFL a chance to play against new players at a different ground.

"Osborne has a long and rich and colourful history of football and netball. I think it would be an absolute asset to the Riverina Football League and I would be really surprised if they turned them down."
