A nine-round home and away season is proposed to start on Sunday July 19, the end of the next school holidays, giving teams a solid two months of sport.
For grades playing finals, it will be just the two semi-finals (1 v 4 and 2 v 3) with the winners progressing straight to the grand final on the last Sunday in September.
AFL Riverina was hoping for indicative team nominations by the weekend and expects to have a clearer picture from clubs at a meeting on a Wednesday.
"We're hoping to move on with planning the season, we're just waiting on team nominations to determine the numbers in each grade and develop a draw," chairman Michael Irons said.
Junior sport was given the go-ahead to return even before senior competitions and Irons said it's important to provide the avenue for sport.
"Obviously a lot of kids have been missing footy and netball and are keen to get back out there. I think it's important, that engagement of kids to keep them involved in the game for the future of our sport down the track," he said.
The South West Juniors are aiming for a September 19 grand final day, with seven rounds and a three-week finals series, but numbers will be the big query across all junior competitions after the coronavirus disruption.
