With the impact of the coronavirus crisis on sport Cricket NSW, NSW Rugby League, Football NSW, NSW Rugby Union and AFL NSW/ACT have agreed a clear delineation between the summer of cricket and the winter football codes for shared grounds.
The agreement will see football competitions conclude no later than October 11, including finals, and cricket competitions can finish no later than April 5 next year.
Robertson Oval is the major venue used in both seasons although three other grounds are regularly used for first grade cricket are utilised by a number of football codes during winter.
Cricket NSW South Western area manager Luke Olsen said there is room for discussions between sporting organisations in Wagga but believes the plan will work for all involved.
"It's to give an overarching date that local associations and footy leagues can work on," Olsen said.
"It doesn't mean that there is a low down this is the date everyone has to finish footy codes by but it gives a baseline in case there are any issues locally.
"If everyone is in agreeance to go a week later than that so be it but it also allows council to have that date.
"It is probably more important for them around ground preparation, cricket wicket preparation, lower mowing height and top dressing."
October is set to see the conclusion of shortened football seasons as well as the start of cricket.
Olsen believes at least two weeks will be needed to prepare grounds for cricket.
"It depends on the weather," he said.
"You could get a wicket up in two to three weeks with good growing conditions.
"Three to four is probably ideal."
Wagga Cricket usually start their season following the October long weekend.
Olsen doesn't believe that will change substantially.
"A lot of competitions are going to be pretty close to finished and if not finished deep in finals where they use less grounds anyway," he said.
"I think our cricket competitions will be looking at a mid to late October start regardless."
