Patrick Smith, 23, of Cottee Street, will serve a minimum of seven months before he is eligible for parole after pleading guilty in Wagga Local Court to a charge of police pursuit.
He also pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated break and enter in company, larceny, never licensed person drive vehicle on road, use unregistered Class A motor vehicle, possess prohibited drug and fail to comply with requirement of public health order by breaching the COVID-19 direction.
According to facts tendered to the court, Smith was involved in a break-in at a partially renovated property at Bourkelands on April 21 or 22, 2020.
Tools valued at about $2500 were taken from the property and carried away in a wheelie bin stolen from a neighbouring home.
According to the facts, police saw a Ford Falcon car, without licence plates, being driven in Ashmont about 7am on April 22.
Officers started a pursuit, which ended a short time later in nearby Webb Park when the car, being driven by Smith, rolled a number of times.
The court heard Smith ran off on foot, leaving a passenger still in the car.
In the boot of the car, police found the stolen wheelie bin and tools.
Later in the day, when Smith was arrested by police, he had 1.55 grams of cannabis with him.
The court heard Smith had twice previously been warned by police - on April 7 and again on April 16 - about breaching the COVID-19 restrictions.
Magistrate Christopher Halburd told the court Smith's actions indicated he "just doesn't care about his impact on the community".
In addition to the jail term, Smith was disqualified from driving for three years and fined a total of $700.
Smith was also sentenced on charges that occurred in separate incidents.
He was fined $800 and disqualified from driving for 12 months for driving at Ashmont on August 7, 2019, with methamphetamine and cannabis in his system and jailed for one month for driving without ever having been licensed.
For breaching an apprehended domestic violence order at Narrandera on January 19, 2019, Smith was sentenced to a month's jail.
He will be eligible for parole on January 8, 2021.
