Shortly after 11am on Monday, officers from the Riverina Police District were alerted to the theft of a Toyota Hilux utility from a home on Baker Street, Temora.
Police were notified soon after that the Hilux was seen driving erratically through the town, before it crashed through a fence onto Burley Griffin Way.
Riverina Police District Inspector Adrian Telfer said the man then allegedly led police of a number of high speed pursuits through Temora and Barmedman.
"At one stage, police allege the offender was in excess of 140km/h through Temora, which is obviously very dangerous," he said.
The utility continued to travel through several rural fences and properties along Nobbys Road and Goldfields Way, before becoming entangled in fencing at a farm in Yiddah about 1pm.
The man was located about two hours after the initial theft of the vehicle, according to Inspector Telfer, and was taken to Temora Hospital for mandatory testing.
"Thanks to the community support and assistance, we were able to locate the individual in the vehicle, and ultimately he was arrested and charged with six offences, the most serious of which being the police pursuits," he said.
"It was a really great demonstration of local farmers always willing to assist us.
"They worked with us, they kept us up to date with where this vehicle was travelling and ultimately, police were in right spot and right time."
He was charged with take and drive conveyance, unlicensed driver, three counts of police pursuit, and drive under influence of drug.
Inspector Telfer said the alleged offender is known to police and has never held a driver's licence.
He was bail refused to appear before Wagga Local Court later today.
