The Riverina under 23s representative hopes the club can get back on the field sooner rather than later after the decision to withdraw from Group Nine.
Ward was told by his father the club had elected to sit out any delayed season due to the coronavirus impact with little information released by the club.
"Not much has really been said," Ward said.
"I think the way the year is going it is probably for the best.
"It's a pity we won't be playing footy and even under the circumstances it is disappointing."
Ward linked with the club in 2018, where he played in both Group Nine and in Southern Inland with grand finalists Ag College, before committing to rugby league last season.
Moving to Thirroul earlier this year for employment, the 22-year-old was going to travel to keep playing with the club.
"I was going to travel back and I think there were a few other boys from down Wollongong way who were going to be coming back as well," Ward said.
"We were all going to travel together, which would have been good.
"I think they were waiting to see how everything went before the way that it has gone."
The club sighted a lack of player enthusiasm as one of the reasons they elected not to commit to playing along with uncertainty and regulations being placed on clubs.
The ability to play in front of crowds is a big concern for clubs.
Ward is looking forward to restrictions lifting.
"Hopefully it all goes back and the crowds go back," Ward said.
"If you can't get a crowd it is hard for clubs to stay afloat."
