While the format will only become clearer after the government releases a community sport update on June 22, a round robin conference competition proposal received support at a league meeting on Wednesday night.
"We are just waiting on rules and regulations," league president Brendan I'Anson said.
"After the school holidays we will get something going.
"It's important kids stay in touch with their clubs as something will definitely be happening on the junior football and netball front."
In April, the league floated a proposal for a shortened season which involved the competition being split into northern and southern divisions.
While the option has received little interest for senior football, clubs are interested in it for juniors to give youngsters sport without the burden of much travel.
Osborne, Rand-Walbundrie-Walla, Billabong Crows, Henty, Lockhart and CDHBU were grouped in the northern conference with Brock-Burrum, Culcairn, Holbrook, Howlong, Jindera and Murray Magpies in southern.
The Hume League abandoned senior football for premiership points last month following a 9-3 vote against playing in October.
Club presidents and coaches were invited to speak at the league meeting at Walbundrie on Wednesday.
The Tallangatta and District league is set to make a decision later this month.
