WAGGA softballers will get a head start on the junior community sport's return next month, with under-14 state championship trials given the green light to take place on Sunday, June 14.

The NSW government announced on Tuesday junior community sport will resume on July 1 as life slowly begins to return to normal.
Wagga Softball Association executive member Chris Hall said Wagga City Council had approved their plan to conduct the trials safely, in accordance with Covid-19 restrictions.
"It's a big positive we're returning to trials and getting the kids out there again. We're going to return to training (soon)," he said.
"I sit on the board of Softball NSW now and we've been pushing hard to get some kind of a return to play.
"From a softball perspective we're all systems go. We're looking to capitalise on people being stuck at home and hopefully we can return to play sooner rather than later."
Hall said they would float the prospect of setting up a pre-season competition before the next softball campaign gets underway in September.
"We might be able to get a six week competition going so we can get people playing sport as quickly as possible," he said.
"At the trials there's no tagging, no interaction between the players, and the ball is the only thing commonly touched."
The state titles will be held at George's River on September 19-20.
