A Junee woman died and a man was left injured on Sunday afternoon after a HiLux ute left the road and hit a tree along Pattersons Road at Harefield.
A NSW police spokesperson said the 37-year-old woman died at the scene while the 23-year-old man was taken to Wagga Base Hospital with suspected chest and arm injuries.
Both individuals involved in the accident were Junee locals.
A week prior on May 24, Kyra Sutherland, aged in her 20s, died after her car crashed into a tree on the same road.
Emergency services were called after witnesses, who were able to remove Miss Sutherland from the vehicle before it caught fire, came across the crashed Audi.
However, Miss Sutherland died at the scene.
The young woman's legacy now hopes to live on through a fundraiser set up by her family.
They have asked the public to donate to the RSPCA, showing their support for the organisation to remember Miss Sutherland's love and care of all animals, great and small.
Junee mayor Neil Smith said the tragedies were "concerning".
"It's a bit hard to comprehend, because it isn't typically a dangerous stretch of road," he said.
"Accidents like this have been happening for years and always rock the community, but on straight stretches of road with just a single vehicle involved, it makes it hard to understand."
In other news:
Cr Smith said the causes of both accidents were unexpected, given that Pattersons Road is not typically considered dangerous.
"They do say people start to switch off closer to home," he said.
"There are shift workers around the region so it may be fatigue, but it doesn't make it any less traumatic," he said.
The young age of both of the deceased drivers added "another layer of concern for people," according to Cr Smith.
"These people had their whole lives ahead of them, which I know is a bit of a cliche but sadly, it's true," he said.
"They had possible children to come, great achievements ahead and memories to make, it really is a worry."
The NSW Centre for Road Safety has recorded six other deaths on Junee's roads between 2015 and 2018.
The two recent fatalities on Pattersons Road were the first recorded on that stretch in recent years.
One fatality has been recorded on Canola Way, and a second on Goldfields Way, while River Road and Gundagai Road each recorded two fatalities.
