And while there's more cool weather ahead this week, forecasters say the city is in for a wetter-than-usual winter with warmer night-time temperatures.
Weatherzone meteorologist Esteban Abellan said Wagga could expect some "good news" heading into winter, with high levels of rainfall forecast throughout the entire June, July, August period.
"The modelling indicates there's good chance of getting 200 millimetres [in Wagga], so quite above the long term average in terms of rainfall," Dr Abellan said.
"In terms of temperature, it seems the minimum temperatures will be a bit warmer than average this winter. This is consistent with more rain; as we get more rain we get more clouds, which prevents cooling overnight."
In other news:
The past few weeks have been significantly cooler than normal as a result of cold fronts moving through the region.
Autumn ended on a particularly chilly note, with last week's minimum temperatures dropping to an average of 4.2 degrees - a full two degrees colder than Wagga's long-term average for this time of year.
"The month of May overall was on the cooler side," Dr Abellan said. "We are looking at one degree less than average which is quite a lot, because we're talking about a 31-day average."
An icy blast linked to a cold front will herald the arrival of winter today, with the mercury expected to reach a chilly 12 degrees in Wagga.
The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a 95 per cent chance of rain, with between five and 15 millimetres possible. A top of 13 is forecast tomorrow.
