Geppert will hold a video meeting with representatives from AFL Riverina's senior clubs to sound out their thoughts but said it won't be as formal as calling for a vote.

"In my opinion it's far too early to be making a decision on participating in a season or not because we don't have the answers on those contributing factors yet," Geppert said.

"But I believe the speed at which the restrictions are moving, it can give the clubs confidence. In the last two weeks, with the movement we've had... in another two weeks we'll have greater clarity potentially around things like crowds.

"Yes, we will probably seek the clubs' position on how they're feeling but we certainly won't be calling for a vote or anything like that about the season."

Many clubs remain uncertain about the prospect of playing, particularly if there are restrictions on crowds.

While some clubs including Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong, Wagga Tigers and East Wagga-Kooringal are already at training this week, The Rock-Yerong Creek has reservations about participating in a season and Farrer League premiers North Wagga are cautious.

Geppert congratulated clubs on absorbing the protocols to return to training and said AFL NSW-ACT is mindful of what will be most important to holding a competition.

"The crowds piece is an integral part of our leagues in southern NSW, the gate-takings for home clubs, and that's more of the update we'll give to clubs... 'This is the work that we're doing behind the scenes with the NSW government around the current restrictions and what it might look like (at a return to competition)'," Geppert said.

"The crowds and the canteen and the bars - everything that's important to a footy club, we're trying to seek that information for the clubs and the earlier we get that information, the better...

"That's a decision that gets made by the government and NSW health officials but we believe we should have that information in enough time for clubs and leagues to make an informed decision."
