Skilled migration officer Faye Anderson, of Regional Development Riverina, has been named a finalist for the premier's multicultural community medal and honour roll, a recognition that left her "gobsmacked".

"Just helping people is enough recognition on its own and making a difference in someone's life and allowing them to live their dreams is all I need," she said.

In her role, which she has held for about 15 years, Ms Anderson assists the region's employers and migrants alike in processing visa applications for certification and sponsorship.

But it is "a rewarding career" that has allowed her to follow the journeys of many migrants, who one day are able to call the Riverina home.

"Once they get their visa and become citizens, they are able to buy a house and start a family. They make the Riverina their home and fall in love with the country," she said.

"Not only that, they are helping the region and businesses fill (skill) gaps, so that they can continue to be productive ... these people settle in and make a big difference.

"They are valuable and help our economy grow in the region."

Regional Development Riverina chief executive Rachel Whiting said Ms Anderson "goes above and beyond" for skilled migrants and their families from greeting new arrivals at the airport, attending cultural celebrations and has been known to drive people to job interviews on her day off.

Ms Whiting said she "invests a great deal of time" in building relationships with employers and migrants to help them make connections that benefit both parties.

"She sets a great example for unity in the community and shows us what we can achieve if people are willing to act as a friend and neighbour to all," she said.

"Faye has contributed to the goodwill in our communities towards new migrants and has eased the transition for many families. This has been a slow and quiet change but, through her good works, Faye sets the standard for others in the community.

"Faye's a true winner in our eyes."

The recipient of the premier's multicultural medal and honour roll will be announced virtually on Tuesday.
