The notice of motion, initiated by Cr Paul Funnell, requests for the council to lobby the state government to return the council elections date to September 2020 or as close as possible.
It was decided early on by the state government to postpone the council elections by 12 months in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, Cr Funnell said it was time to give communities an "opportunity to have their democratic say" in a timely fashion.
"The original decision appears to have turned out to be an overkill and the responsible thing to now do is reverse it," he said.
Wagga councillors will vote on the notice of motion at Monday night's council meeting.
