The Cartwrights Hill trainer has drawn barrier one in both the group one races he's been apart of so far but is looking an improved performance with Streamliner.
Belongtolou finished ninth in Smith's first group one appearance two years ago but believes the much more experienced pacer can produce a better result.
"It's a big, big help (the draw)," Smith said.
"You don't have to move anywhere from there but just come out of the gate hard and see where you lob.
"I've actually drew one in the first group one and have drawn one in this one but hopefully we can finish a bit closer this time.
"There is a lot of difference this time around.
"He's a mature horse and with two-year-olds you don't really know from start to start where they are up to but the older horses give you a bit more of a guide on how they are going."
Smith was at the helm as Streamliner qualified for the $100,000 final in the first round of heats at Riverina Paceway.
However he wasn't eligible to take the drive in the final, as he doesn't hold an A grade licence, and instead Stephen Maguire will be in the centre of the action.
Smith was more disappointed for the likes of Bayley Duck and James McPherson who were also ruled of driving in the group one.
"I've got a good replacement as Stevie is a great driver and I've always had a lot of time for Steve," he said.
"It is a shame I can't drive myself but I felt sorry for the two young fellas who can't drive.
"They are our future and this is a big opportunity for them to be in a group one and they are going to miss out."
Smith claimed the eight-year-old out of Victoria and has won three of his 12 start since.
The biggest was the heat win a fortnight ago and Smith couldn't be happier with the horse coming into the $100,000 final.
"He's come through great and has been working great ever since so it's fingers crossed," he said.
