After playing four of the last five seasons with Wagga City Wanderers, a desire to play alongside fellow Sharks stalwarts again including Ben Angel, Hayden Callander and Kane Baumer convinced the 36-year-old to rejoin the Pascoe Cup.
"I've got a lot of mates I've played soccer with for many years still at Lake Albert, and we're not getting any younger," Curran said.
"It would be good to have a last couple of years together.
"I've got a young family, that's my main priority at the moment. With work and family it's hard to make that commitment to get to every (Wanderers) training, and the other work you have to do outside of that to keep the body right.
Curran began his senior career at Lake Albert aged 17 and has won four premierships with the club.
The Sharks are keen to get back onto the field at some stage this year to try and avenge last year's 2-1 extra time grand final loss to Hanwood.
"They've got a very settled squad and quite a few old heads in there with heaps of experience," he said.
"But there's also some good young kids coming through which Mitch has been introducing into the team the last couple of years."
Curran was heavily influential in helping set up the Wanderers, who are preparing for their second year in the Canberra competition after initially beginning in Griffith before heading to Sydney.
He believes they're well placed to take the next step and quality for a maiden finals series under new coach Michael Babic and assistant coach Matt Menser.
"There was some hard yards there for the first few years, but the fruits of the labour is worth it," Curran said.
"It's fantastic to see the women and juniors on board as well. It's something I wish was around when I was a junior, it's providing some great pathways for the younger generation coming through now.
"I was part of the pre-season with the Wanderers and Micks' got them going really well.
"I played under Mick the last year I was at Lake Albert, he's a quality coach and the Wanderers are in a good spot to have him and Matt there as well."
