Whereyabinboppin was sent out a $1.05 chance in the second of the Regional Championships heats at Riverina Paceway on Friday.
And never looked like being beaten.
Moving swiftly to the front in the early stages, Whereyabinboppin left his rivals in his wake, going on for a 32.7-metre win.
Driver Jackson Painting knew he had plenty more to give.
"He felt like he was in second gear," Painting said.
"The plugs were still in."
The mile rate of 1:53.5 was just over half a second outside Beetson's track record.
Painting is confident there is plenty more to come from the son of A Rocknroll Dance if called upon.
"If something can go with him we will go a lot quicker as he just gets out in front like that and gets a bit lost," he said.
"He wants to lug a little bit when he gets lost but if we had something outside him the whole way I don't know what he would run.
"It could be scary."
It sets up a mouthwatering clash with another impressive heat winner Western Sonador in the $100,000 final on May 22.
Painting labelled him the biggest danger but it may not be the next time time the four-year-old graces the track after almost three weeks between runs.
"We've screwed him down a little bit more but ideally we would like another run next week," Painting said.
"I don't think we will get one but we could be back here next week in the up to 90. We will see how he pulls up first and what Dave wants to do. He blew up a bit today so there is some improvement in him."
Whereyabinboppin made it five straight wins and trainer David Kennedy is impressed by how he's endured a long preparation for the series.
"He's had three runs in three months and it is surprising how well he is recovering really for the lack of racing," Kennedy said.
"Steve Harris trialled him back in February so he has been up a long time and has done a pretty good job to still be focused."
