O'Hehir has just started his mandatory 14 days quarantine in a Sydney hotel after returning home from England.
It wasn't part of the 25-year-old's original plan, but the chance to play for the Tigers once more is a silver lining to his situation.
"I'm excited to come back," O'Hehir said.
"I loved playing for the club over there (In England) but nothing compares to the Tigers.
"I'm looking forward to putting on the black and gold again."
The exciting fullback left his junior club midway through the 2018 season after moving to London to teach.
He was expecting to stay on for at least another four months, if not another year, before the coronavirus crisis struck.
With UK schools closed and O'Hehir unable to access COVID-19 funding implemented by the British government he elected to move back to Gundagai.
"I thought here would be the safer place to be," O'Hehir said.
"I decided to move home as the schools are shutdown."
With Australia fairing better than the UK, O'Hehir hopes to be able to pick up work soon.
And get back on the footy field.
"I'll just go back and hopefully when the schools open up again I'll be able to start teaching," he said.
"If the footy season starts I'll have another run with the Tiges for this year and go from there."
Gundagai secretary Martin Hay is thrilled to have O'Hehir back at the club.
"We're excited to have him back," Hay said.
"It is fantastic as not only is he a local product but he is a great person to have around the club.
"On top of being a fantastic football player he's a really nice bloke."
O'Hehir was part of Gundagai's breakthrough 2015 premiership before successive grand final losses.
He missed out on another premiership when moving to head to England but wasn't lost to rugby league.
Instead he joined the Hammersmith Hills Hoists, even going on to representative honours before their European tour was cut short by COVID-19.
O'Hehir gives Gundagai another quality option at fullback after James Smart and Mathew Lyons were used in the role last season.
He's looking forward to the competition.
"I might have to change positions as I've put on a bit of weight here," O'Hehir said.
"I'll have to move into the front row or the centres or something."
