Ryan Cronin was set for a season in Queensland before a change of plans.
The 20-year-old is now back working in Wagga and more than happy to head back to Kangaroos.
"It will be good, the last time I played we won a grand final with the under 18s so it will be good to play with a few of my mates who played in that team," Cronin said.
Cronin's last game for the club was a man of the match performance in their 2017 Weissel Cup success.
Just weeks later he headed to Canberra and spent two seasons with the Raiders under 20s before heading north seeking more opportunities.
Securing a contract with Brisbane Rugby League outfit Brighton Roosters, the feeder club of Redcliffe Dolphins, Cronin was training with the Queensland Cup outfit before COVID-19 struck.
While the Brisbane competition is waiting to see how its season will pan out, with the Queensland Cup cancelled Cronin thought it was best to head back to Wagga.
"I was out of work because of the coronavirus and with no footy I thought it was best to come home," he said.
"It's been good as I can see all my mates while saving a bit of money."
Kangaroos president Peter Hurst was pleased to have him on board.
Especially as the club looks to develop their junior talent.
"That's a big piece of the puzzle for us," Hurst said.
"It's really good.
"We're stoked to have him on board and keen for him to stay long term and develop the team in the right direction."
Cronin played two first grade games for Kangaroos in 2017.
He's looking forward to joining premiership teammates including Lachlan Jolliffe and Bowie Foster and is looking to play in the centres or in the second row.
With teams unable to train, Cronin will be in for quite the initiation if they season gets up and running in July.
"It will be hard but hopefully it all goes good," Cronin said.
He's the latest new face at Kangaroos to sign on under new coach Hayden Ashcroft this season as the club waits for an outcome for the 2020 season.
