The Bureau of Meteorology says a strong cold front is likely to bring heavy rain and damaging winds on Wednesday.
It is likely to affect the residents of Tumbarumba, Tumut, Selwyn, Cabramurra, Khancoban and Thredbo.
In other news:
The bureau warns that isolated thunderstorms embedded within the rain band might enhance rainfall and bring damaging wind gusts in excess of 90 kilometres an hour.
However, the warning states that conditions are expected to ease as the cold front moves across the area during Thursday morning.
A Flood watch was also issued for the Tumut River ahead of Wednesday's forecast predicting a downpour.
The State Emergency Service has advised that people should:
- Move vehicles under cover and away from trees.
- Secure and put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
- Keep at least eight metres away from fallen power lines.
- Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water and keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
- After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides.
- Stay vigilant and monitor conditions.
