The AFL was to provide an update for the whole game at the end of April. It now intends to announce its plans for the elite competition around May 11 after the national cabinet reviews coronavirus restrictions.
AFL NSW-ACT says an update on community football will come after that AFL roadmap is announced.
The national cabinet is also putting together guidelines for sport at all levels to help governing bodies formulate their plans.
AFL NSW-ACT's acting chief executive, Tiffany Robertson said they'll fit in with the advice of medical authorities and the NSW and ACT governments.
"Pleasingly, governments of all levels across Australia understand the critical role and benefits of community sport, and the importance of local sport restarting and reconnecting those vital support networks that are currently stretched or not operating," Robertson said.
The NSW Rugby League is currently aiming for a July 18 resumption of competitions and said it will review the coronavirus situation at the beginning of June.
