The second annual Riverina Rumble event, organised by Wagga classic car enthusiast Howard Brown, doubled last year's fundraising goal.

Despite undue weather, the February event managed to raise $2,037.55 for Can Assist.

"It was extremely hot for the hot rods," Mr Brown said.

"We were going to do a 54km drive to the outskirts of Wagga, but had to cut that extremely short and even that was too much."

The two-day event attracted 200 cars and 300 people, some having travelled up to 10 hours to attend.

"A couple from Victoria was in a roadster with no roof, it was 42 degrees while they were travelling," Mr Brown said.

"Another couple in an all-steel body hot rod, it was so hot they couldn't touch the steel inside while driving."

Provided the ongoing health crisis has subsided, Mr Brown and the travelling car enthusiasts will return to Wagga next year to stage the event all over again.

"We've already re-booked it for next year, and it's sold out within three days. There's 20 or 30 still on the waiting list to be there," Mr Brown said.

It may prove to be the first car show on the calendar for the foreseeable future at least.

"Our calendar is usually pretty full with rod runs by this time of the year, but there's probably been about six to have been cancelled," Mr Brown said.

"I've been asked whether we could have this one earlier just to get everyone back together sooner, but we'll have to see."
