Riverina Police District Superintendent Bob Noble said 42 cases were reported to police between Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5.
"This is quite a large number, usually we do see a few more reports of a weekend but these figures are above the norm and the previous weekend was high as well so that is two weekends with above average reports of domestic violence and police are highly active in checking in on those at risk," he said.
Superintendent Noble said police across the district had made a further 37 apprehended violence order checks in relation to the proactive domestic violence operation running throughout April.
"In all 37 cases where police checked, there were no breaches which is a positive step," he said.
"However, there were eight other breaches detected in response to matters investigated through the courts, and five of those have been charged with the other three cases ongoing in action being taken."
In other news:
The 42 reports of domestic violence were a reminder to the public to seek help, according to Superintendent Noble.
"A number of this weekend's cases involved assault where a person required treatment, although none resulted in serious injury or homicide thankfully," he said.
"But we all know that with every domestic violence matter, there is a potential homicide.
"Every proactive intervention is also potentially helping avoid a homicide."
