Carroll has taken his time with the three-year-old, giving him 10 trials before his debut in the Nixon's Engineering Maiden Pace (1740m) at Wagga.
If the wait had not been long enough, Carroll had Roll Play in to make his debut at Junee last Friday before the meeting was abandoned due to the brief suspension of harness racing.
Roll Play won his latest trial at Junee last month but Carroll is not getting too excited. He wants to see the three-year-old do everything right.
"He's going alright. He's usually thereabouts at the trials," Carroll said.
"We've had a few little problems with him jumping at shadows, whether they are there or not.
"He might need a bit of time to learn. I just hope he gets around. If he does everything right he should be somewhere near them. He won't be too far behind."
Carroll, who has a small team of three pacers in work, purchased Roll Play after he initially was with clients of the Hancock stable in Sydney.
Steve Harris will take the drive on Roll Play, from the inside of the second row. Roll play is in the last of eight races at 9.30pm.
