But Shinwa-Kai Karate Club has turned to the magic of the world wide web to help ease the cabin fever and give children, and parents, a welcome evenue to release pent-up energy.
Through online meeting app Zoom the club's students have been able to continue their training under the watchful eye of Sensei Sawal Salleh.
"You don't know how long this (pandemic) is going to take, so it's good to keep them active and up to date," Salleh said.
"It's a bit difficult over the computer because you can't adjust their body movement or anything like that, you can only verballly tell them what to do.
"We're trying to make do with what we can, the kids are enjoying it and the parents are joining in.
"All they need is a bit more space so they're not kicking furniture."
The first trial session on Saturday was well received with 15 students enjoying half an hour of karate training.
"I also put some videos up of them so they can see themselves practising," Halleh said.
"Children are feeling restless with no sport so it's good to help out."
