Kooringal Woolworths staff got chocolates and letters of gratitude, and workers at Turvey Park Foodworks were given bunches of flowers and a card to lift their spirits.
Foodworks deli assistant Molly Addison said the gifts and kind words were a much-needed morale boost for the workers, who were fighting a gruelling uphill battle to keep the shelves full.
"Everyone's feeling pressure a lot, for sure, but we're all working together as a team to do the best we can," Miss Addison said.
"We've had shoppers come in and just thanks us, letting us know that we are doing a good job and it's appreciated."

Fresh food manager Gavin Mather said these were stressful times for all the staff, but made that much more bearable by the kindness of the community.
"The customers we have are just lovely people, and that makes a huge difference to us," Mr Mather said.
"Every two seconds you get asked 'are you alright? How are you coping?' - which is just lovely."
