It is the first of five sections of the bridge that will be lifted out by a large crane towering over the site and replaced to widen and strengthen the infrastructure.
Wagga City Council's commercial operations director Caroline Angel said it was promising to see the project progress quickly in the first weeks of the bridge closure.
In other news:
The Eunony Bridge has been out of action since February 14, causing vehicles accessing Bomen and North Wagga to be detoured via Wagga until August 1.
"Our contractors ... have made an excellent start on the project," Ms Angel said.
"It's a positive step in a long process. I'm looking forward to seeing more progress delivered in the weeks ahead."
