Prime Minister Scott Morrison and key members of his ministerial team met Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese on Sunday to nut out a range of issues over the running of parliament in the months ahead in the face of health and travel restrictions across the country.

"We have to be conscious of the fact that because of the spread of the virus, it may not be physically possible to convene the parliament over the next six months and we have to prepare for those contingencies," Mr Morrison told reporters in Canberra.

Mr Morrison was announcing the government's second package to support the economy as the country battles with COVID-19.

The $66 billion package aims to assist workers, households and businesses and comes on top of $17.6 billion on measures announced 10 days earlier.

The endorsement of the two packages will be the focus of both the House of Representatives and the Senate on Monday.

But Mr Morrison said if parliament needs to go to Tuesday, "it will".

"That will depend a lot on how the procedures work," he said.

Otherwise that will be it for this week, when four sitting days had been scheduled.

The next sitting was meant to be three days for the May 12 budget, but on Friday Treasurer Josh Frydenberg postponed the budget to October to allow more time to gauge the impact of the virus.

It means the treasurer will also need to move supply bills in parliament this week to ensure the continuity of government in the 2020/21 financial year.

The government has hinted at the potential need for a third stimulus package down the track.

"We are working through issues that would enable the parliament to be reconvened on an emergency basis, to deal with any essential legislation that was required, particularly to address the coronavirus pandemic that is going around the world," Mr Morrison said.

He thanked the Labor leadership for its assistance so far in helping to bring the parliament together in difficult times.

Shadow treasurer Jim Chalmers said Labor would not be standing in the way of the stimulus measures that the government has proposed.

"This is not business as usual in our economy, it's not business as usual in our society, nor should it be business as usual in our politics," Dr Chalmers told reporters in Canberra.

But he said the opposition wants urgency in getting money out in the economy where it is needed.

However, Mr Albanese is concerned about a new measure that would allow eligible people to tap their superannuation for $10,000 this financial year and next if impacted by the coronavirus.

He said it was not the best time for individuals to be withdrawing money from their superannuation given the impact from the fall in the share market, which has seen tens of billions of dollars wiped off share prices in the past few weeks.

"It's not good for individuals," he told Sky News.
