There is no denying that the current global situation due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic is an unchartered one.
As you will have heard, the federal government has put in place a ban on non-essential indoor gatherings of 100 people or more.
In line with this, Wagga's Civic Theatre has made the decision to close the doors and cancel or postpone upcoming performances.
As an industry that uses storytelling to raise people's spirits and provide a distraction from the day-to-day stresses of life through music, colour, light, sounds and positive energy - it's challenging for us to close the doors right when you probably most need entertainment. The theatre's primary concern is the health and safety of all audiences, artists and staff.
The theatre's closure is the most appropriate action to help slow the spread of COVID-19. The theatre will continue to follow the advice of the government and health authorities and keep you updated.
While the theatre is closed, the theatre will share as much online performance as possible, so be sure to follow the Facebook page @WaggaCivicTheatre.
The arts industry is a beautiful community.
All over the world, we are seeing the delivery of performance in new ways to get people through these trying times.
Let's stick together - take care of yourself and others, and take the time to smile at a neighbour.
Here at the theatre, our thoughts are with all affected. This especially includes the artists, performers and staff whose livelihood depends on a thriving theatre industry.
