The Raiders were set to host Newcastle at Equex Centre on April 18 before the outbreak of the coronavirus.
With the NRL now playing behind closed doors, last week it was mooted the clash wouldn't go ahead at the ground in Wagga.
It has now been confirmed the round six clash is now planned to be played in Canberra.
However the Raiders have committed to playing a NRL fixture in Wagga in 2021 instead.
In a statement, Canberra chief executive Don Furner said he wanted to continue the relationship with Wagga.
"It's a terrific venue, we see great value in bringing this game to Wagga and we want to continue that partnership we have forged with the city in recent times," Furner said.
He also confirmed the ACT government and NRL were supportive of the decision.
Neither a date nor an opponent for the 2021 clash is expected to be confirmed for months.
Wagga City Council signed a deal with Raiders to host NRL games in 2019 and 2020, with the option for one more in 2021, before the unprecedented health crisis.
Considering the ramifications across Australia and the world mayor Greg Conkey believes the change is good news for footy fans across the region.
"There's no doubt calling off the game in Wagga is disappointing for all concerned, but the decision has been made in line with advice from government and health authorities and in the best interests of the community," Conkey said.
"The good news is that we can look forward to Canberra Raiders playing in Wagga again next year."
Just over 10,000 fans packed into Equex Centre to watch the Raiders down Penrith on the way to the NRL grand final.
A number of improvements have been made to the ground since the clash in May last week.
Wagga Rugby League will now have more time to continue to work on the ground.
