A young Tigers side was slow out of the blocks early in Saturday's trial against Wodonga, before outscoring the Ovens and Murray outfit in the second half.
Maiden said the club hopes to announce some new arrivals in the near future, with defence the main area to improve.
"Most of the experience we've lost is in defence, so we'll certainly be looking to bolster that a bit," he said.
"Our aim firstly is to be competitive, then see what happens from there.
"We do have some talented kids coming through and that gives us depth we're going to need.
"We've got a few new guys coming through as well and we'll get those out there soon enough, but our young guys we definitely want to work with.
"I was really impressed with a couple of young fellas on the weekend like (winger/midfielder) Sam McNaughton, and I thought Justin Jenkins showed some really good signs.
"We competed really well and played a really young group on the weekend. They stuck at it and we were probably outscored by a little bit in the end, but we probably outscored them in the second half."
