Greater Western Sydney's weekend in Wagga couldn't have gone much better, with two club wins and close to 10,000 people through the gates at Robertson Oval.
In front of 6556 fans on Sunday, the Giants enjoyed a 14-point win against reigning premiers Richmond in an entertaining final hit-out before the 2020 season.
For GWS coach Leon Cameron, the 17.7 (109) to 14.11 (95) win meant nothing in the context of last year's disappointing grand final loss to the Tigers, but everything in terms of what it offered football fans.
"I think it's fantastic to have us playing in the heart of our academy in Wagga and have Richmond, like such a powerful club, come here and play," Cameron said.
There were goals galore - 31 in total - as superstars plied their trade on an immaculate surface, and coach Cameron said he was thrilled to see Riverina-bred AFL players given an opportunity to play in front of family and friends.
On Saturday, more than 3000 turned up and saw Alyce Parker do exactly that.
The 19-year-old from Cookardinia was brilliant in the midfield as the Giants got their AFLW season on track with an impressive 45-point win against the Tigers.
Parker earned rave reviews from coach Alan McConnell. She said she's still learning but was thrilled to produce a big game on a huge occasion for women's football.
"I was very happy. Obviously for me, midfielders (it's about) attacking the play and getting it forward and I thought I did that pretty well," Parker said.
"It's been an amazing experience to show the girls and the club a bit of home and for everyone to come down to Wagga and meet a lot of my support and the boys that are from around here. It's super special."
Richmond coach Damien Hardwick was also positive after his first trip to the city.
"It's been good," the Tigers' two-time premiership coach said.
"The ground itself was in terrific nick and played pretty well today - we saw a lot of goals which is important. And it's good to show the players to the community up here. So we're happy to come here and happy to play here."
