It was far from comfortable at Harris Park on Saturday, but captain Keenan Hanigan was in the middle to help steer the side home to an one-wicket victory.
Hanigan finished unbeaten on 32, as the side brought up their fourth win of the season.
Resuming at 2-15 after bowling the second-placed Cats out for 181 last week, Colts looked fairly comfortable before Josh Thompson asserted himself into the clash once more.
After making 63 last week, Thompson took the keys wickets David Bolton (six) and then Andrew Dutton (76) to trigger a middle order collapse.
Kooringal went from 3-128 to 8-141 in almost a blink of an eye.
Hanigan and brother Macgregor Hanigan (five) steadied things with a 32-run partnership before Rob Gentles (two not out) survived 15 deliveries to help the Colts take victory.
After being made to work hard for the points, Hanigan hopes it can be a result which sees them fight back up the ladder next season.
"In the end we did it the tough way, but it was just good to finish off the year with a win," Hanigan said.
"It was a good game of cricket, I think both teams really enjoyed it.
"It will give us good confidence heading into next year but we are really disappointed we aren't playing finals cricket."
Dutton got Colts on the right foot early after Bolton only added one to his overnight tally.
He was by far the quickest of the Colts batsmen with his 76 coming off 92 balls and featured seven fours and three sixes.
Hanigan was impressed with his efforts.
"He got us off to a flyer and batted really well," he said.
"It was probably the best he's batted all year, he hit the ball nice and clean, and put us in a good position going forward.
"We had a couple of handy contributors to chip in and help him out, which was pleasing."
Nathanael Mooney (36) made another valuable contribution before being caught by Thompson off Sean Gaynor.
Thompson (3-53) also picked up an unusual dismissal after having Dan Perri removed hit wicket for a 22-ball duck.
Perri's bat did the damage as he clipped the bails off.
After St Michaels were docked 10 points for failing to cover the Geoff Lawson Oval pitch last week, Wagga City finished the season in second.
However they will be looking for a much better performance when they tackle South Wagga for a place in the grand final next weekend.
The Cats are yet to beat the Blues this season, after losing the decider to them last year.
