The top-of-the-table clash against South Wagga has been abandoned after conditions were deemed unplayable on Saturday.
After 4.2 millimetres fell overnight on the uncovered wicket, large puddles remained on the surface.
As the Saints were the first named team on the draw it is their responsibility to cover the pitch if rain is predicted.
Captain Beck Frostick admitted the club had made a mistake.
"We didn't think it was going to rain," Frostick said.
"It was warm all day, didn't look like raining and I don't think any of us even looked at the radar to be honest.
"It is all our fault and we have to take the consequences."
It could be a very costly mistake.
Under the by-laws, the penalty for failing to cover the wicket for the first day of a two-day match is the loss of 10 competition points.
The match is abandoned and the non-offending team, in this case South Wagga, receives first innings points.
It means the Blues have won the minor premiership.
Considering the penalty South Wagga president Joel Robinson said it was confusing as to why not covering the pitch would occur.
"The penalty is put in place for things like this not to happen," Robinson said.
"You would think it wouldn't happen with the penalty in place."
St Michaels started the round chasing a second chance in finals by finishing in the top two, but are finish behind Wagga City regardless of the result of their clash with Kooringal Colts.
If Wagga RSL take victory over Lake Albert they will also move past the Saints and secure an advantage for their clash in the first weeks of finals as in the event of weather affecting the result of any finals match the higher ranked teams proceeds.
Frostick admitted it is tough to take.
"It is a bit of a harsh rule but it is what is it and at the end of the day we will keep working hard and back ourselves to keep pushing up the table and get to the grand final," he said.
There is an avenue to apply but it is unlikely at this stage.
