Tumut's Dylan Weir was crowned the champion as the only cowboy to pull off a successful eight-second ride as the stock provided by The Rock breeder John Gill controlled proceedings.
Victorian cowboy Will Purcell's showdown with Wallaby Bob loomed as the more enticing showdowns of the night, and the bull just prevailed after Purcell rode him for 7.8 seconds.
Elle Gard won the open and junior barrel races, while Yass' Clay Bush backed up his team roping title alongside Shane Kenny with victory in the rope and tie.
"It was pretty hard alright for the cowboys, Dylan's was the only score (in the bull ride)," one of the event's judges Doug Vickers said.
"It happens sometimes, you usually get four or five (successful rides), but sometimes the bulls win the day.
"I thought it was a great event from the rodeo side of things, it flowed along pretty nicely and all the young people got behind it."
The event was originally scheduled for a fortnight earlier, but stifling heat forced organisers to postpone.
It is hoped it will result in more cowboys staying on to compete at the Tumbarumba Blaze of Glory Rodeo on Friday.
"Most probably you'll find that will happen," Vickers said.
"You couldn't run the event a couple of weeks ago because it was too hot for the animals.
"They're the number one priority at the event, the animals and the public."
The form of bucking horse Texas Lil, recently named best bucking horse at the national finals, was also one of the highlights of the night.
