WAGGA councillors had a change of heart about its controversial rules set for grieving families looking to erect a tribute on the city's roadsides.

Just last month, a formal policy for the placement of tributes was adopted for the very first time in an effort to reduce risks to traffic.
However Councillor Tim Koschel initiated a motion to overturn the decision following a flood of opposition to the rules following the final outcome.

Cr Koschel said social media platforms also gave the council "a lot more indication on how people are feeling" about the decision.
"A lot of people don't pick up, read ... and respond when on public exhibition," he said.
Only one submission - from a local police officer - was received during the exhibition period.
Councillors unanimously agreed to overturn the decision to adopt a formal policy. Instead, they will develop a set of guidelines that will assist staff if asked about erecting a roadside memorial.
