One of Australia's most accomplished lady golfers will hit the fairways of the Wagga Country Club next month as part of it's bumper week of golf.
Wagga Country Club has secured Rachel Hetherington as special guest at the Ladies Classic on March 24.
Hetherington is an eight-time winner on the US LPGA and was ranked inside the world top 10 throughout 2002-03.
Hetherington will play in the Ladies Classic and speak at the luncheon, while the club is also hopeful of organising an exhibition nine holes the day before.
"I've heard a lot of good things about the event," Hetherington said.
"I don't believe I've been to Wagga before but my husband has been there a few times and speaks very highly of it so that made the decision easy and I'm really excited to go so a place I've never been."
Hetherington is one of the biggest names in Australian golf. Not only did she win eight times on the LPGA, she also won three events on the European Tour, including the German and Spanish Opens.
She downed Annika Sorenstam three times in a play-off.
Hetherington's appearance will kick off a big week of golf in the city that culminates in the Wagga Pro-Am on Thursday and Friday, March 26-27, where the field will be headlined by Marcus Fraser.
The Wagga event has a reputation as one of the best Pro-Ams on the circuit and Hetherington is looking forward to checking out the Country Club and meeting members.
"I think it's always refreshing to see members of the club, both men and women, who have such a passion for golf, play week in, week out, and have that passion for the community and their golf club," she said.
"I know when I toured the best events were where the community was involved and part of the event, their passion is what makes an event."
Wagga Country Club secretary-manager John Turner is delighted to be able to bring such an accomplished golfer to the city.
"To have the calibre of golfer such as Rachel coming to Wagga for the Sureway Classic is a real treat for Wagga's golfing public," Turner said.
"Rachel has won eight times on the LPGA tour and 11 times all around the world. She will be great to listen to for her incite in the world golf scene.
"We are in the process of organising an exhibition nine holes on the Monday 23rd March for all golfers to come see a world class golfer."
