North Wagga will make their women's debut when they meet Narrandera at Apex Park on Friday night. East Wagga-Kooringal, a recreated version of the Snowy Mountain Bears, will host Griffith at Gumly Oval.

North Wagga player Sarah Harmer explained that Friday night's debut has been a long time coming for the Saints.

"We've been training since October so we've been through the 40 degree days. It's been really good, heaps of girls every week," Harmer said.

"There is (a lot of excitement). Half of the girls haven't played before so we're all keen to just learn how to do it.

"The boys have been there helping us each week and it just helps us with each area, whether it be defence, attack or midfield."

Former North Wagga senior coach Nathan Dowdle is coaching the Saints' women, while experienced footballers Matt Thomas, Nigel Smith and Matt Harmer have been at training helping out.

Among some of the experienced players to line up for North Wagga will be Georgina Bennett, Jordan Barrett, Nat Creed and Skye Davey.

Harmer said the Saints weren't setting the bar too high.

"We're just happy to get a goal. That would be amazing," she said.

"I didn't watch any of last year so I don't know what the scores were. Obviously Riverina Lions are going to be hard to beat and I think CSU will be pretty good too. We've just said if we can kick one goal a quarter then that's our job done. That's better than nothing.

"Every training, Dowds has said as long as we improve and have fun, then that's our goal done."

Experienced East Wagga-Kooringal ruck Hannah Finemore has played for a couple of seasons now and believes the Hawks are shaping up well.

"It's going really well. All the girls are really keen, we've got about 10 players from last season and then the rest are under 16s coming through so it's really exciting," Finemore said.

"We've been training since November last year. I think everyone's just keen to get out there, have a kick and have a go.

"I think we'll do pretty well with the girls are coming through."

Finemore will spend her time shared between ruck and full-forward.

Other key players for the Hawks will be Maddy McPherson up forward, Ruby Alchin in defence and Zahli Meriton through the midfield.
