With junior girls competition coming being introduced this year and a strong Riverina representation in the ACT Brumbies Super W side, Rhianna Burke only adds to the women driving the sport forward in Wagga.
Burke has replaced Zac Elliott as the Southern Inland development officer for the region and is looking to bring a new spark to the role.
After first picking up the game as an eight-year-old in Jindabyne, Burke is excited for the opportunity to continue to grow the sport across the zone.
Especially as female participation in rugby continues to surge.
"I'm really excited about getting the girls junior competition up and going, introducing new rep teams for the junior girls and Super W is growing," Burke said.
"We are trying to get more girls from regional areas into that team as there is a lot of potential in rural areas."
However the 19-year-old has no plans to ignore the traditional base.
Instead she wants to help the sport expand to help everyone access the opportunities it can provide.
"I'm trying to look to grow regional areas that don't have much as there is a team for everybody," Burke said.
"It's brings a community to the area.
"I'm hoping to bring a new spark to it."
