The Two Blues had hoped Allan would join Sean Ellis and Ben Maiden in committing for another season but he has decided to return to AFL Canberra club Ainslie.
Allan made a big impression last year and club president Jeff Mickan acknowledged his exit is a blow.
"He was quite handy for us. He was equal best-and-fairest so he's going to be missed a lot. Particularly being the ruckman. They're hard to replace," Mickan said.
Canberra-based Allan shared the honour with two-time winner Ellis and was a big factor in Barellan's improved midfield efforts.
Lawder can't replace Allan in the ruck but brings experience and helps with depth, where they've also been aided by the arrival of teenager Tim Sidebottom who played four senior games with Leeton-Whitton last year.
"He'll play on-ball or forward, same with Alex," coach Sean Browning said.
"They give us a few more rotations and give people like myself and Sean Ellis a bit more time up forward. Sometimes we'd get a bit stretched last year with the boys who played on ball and these two give us a few more options."
The Two Blues had already signed exciting Griffith pair Sam Foley and Reece Matheson who offer further versatility for their line-up.
Lawder's experience includes playing North East Australian Football League (NEAFL) with Queanbeyan in 2014, in between stints at Riverina League club Narrandera in 2013 and 2015.
In recent seasons, he's coached Queanbeyan reserve grade, while in 2016 he was an assistant at his junior club Tuggeranong.
"He's a good coach as well so he helps me, he'll run the boys in Canberra and keep them accountable. And he's keeping me accountable too," Browning said.
Browning also has coaching support from Tim Sidebottom's father, Andrew, who has joined the club as an assistant, coming with experience in charge of the Crows' lower grades and as a first grade bench coach.
"Andrew's a good level head, he's got a good footy brain, he's nice and calm and he's really good for the players," Browning said.
Meantime, in a busy off-season, Barellan have also merged their football and netball clubs.
Mickan says it's a positive step for the club.
"Absolutely. It's a great thing really and hopefully it shows the benefits shortly, and for a while yet," he said.
"There'll be more coordination in everything really - fundraising, the running of the club, appointing coaches and recruiting players. A bit more working together and not as much duplication.
"There's no doubt it's going to be a bit of a transition but everything is on the way and the processes are falling into place."
Barellan have opened up a search for netball coaches, calling for applications for all grades.
The Two Blues' 2020 season doesn't kick off until April 18, at Charles Sturt University, with a first-round bye before the Easter long weekend.
But the club will hold an opening extravaganza on the first weekend in April, with a practice match against Leeton-Whitton to be followed by a season launch at Barellan Sportsground.
