The 22-year-old has returned to the National Premier League Two after a Pascoe Cup stint with Wagga United.

Allen spent plenty of time in the back-line for the Tigers last season, but is determined to lock down a spot up front under new Wanderers coach Michael Babic.

He has noticed a different mentality among the group as they look to make finals in their second year in the Canberra competition.

"It's definitely a different vibe to previous years. There's no negativity, everyone's there to do a job and are working toward the same goal," Allen said.

"I definitely like playing up front. Playing in the back-line last year was out of my comfort zone but I'm happy to play wherever I'm needed.

"I just decided it was best to come back and play a higher level of football."

Allen combined well with the experienced Carl Pideski up front against the Blues and is excited by the partnership's potential.

"He's all class, Carl. He's definitely got a lot of experience and it's good to have a player like him up front to tell you what to do," Allen said.

"I'm enjoying myself, making sure I'm doing the extra hours and finding goals."

The trial was the first of a handful for the Wanderers, with the season not getting underway until ANZAC Day.

A number of players who weren't in the full-time first grade squad last year started against Brindabella, including returning veteran Matt Menser, Nashwan Sulaiman, Luke Stevens and Daniel Okot, while youngster Anoti Matowe was a standout in midfield.

"We tried a few different ideas and concepts. I asked players to do things they're not used to doing with a new formation and a fairly new side," Babic said.

"Tyler scored some lovely goals, it was nice to see the combination of Tyler and Carl (work well) up front.

"He's got a lot of energy and enthusiasm this year, he's highly motivated and he's got so much potential. He can score goals, he can create goals and has come over in the right frame of mind."
