The news comes as a relief to exhausted fire crews, who have been battling the blaze since it was started by a lightning strike on December 28.
According to the Riverina Highlands Rural Fire Service, rainfalls of up to 53 millimetres have been recorded across parts of the fire ground.
The rainy conditions are expected to bring further much-needed falls over the remainder of the week.
The Dunns Road fire has burned more than 333,940 hectares and destroyed dozens of homes and other building around Adelong, Talbingo, Tumbarumba and Batlow.
The devastation to the region's timber, fruit growing and tourism industries prompted a visit last month by Prime Minister Scott Morrison and NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian to Batlow and Tumbarumba.
