As of Friday, five of Hartwigs' branches, including Wagga, are under the ownership of new business Tristar Truck and Bus,
However, it will continue to operate under the same business model.
For Tim Hartwig, seeing his family name taken down at the business's site on Hammond Avenue evoked mixed emotions.
"It is sad, it's tough to see the change but with change there's new and exciting opportunities on the horizon," he said.
Hartwigs' Wagga, Albury, Griffith, Dubbo and Orange branches will all see the change in name and ownership, while the Queanbeyan and Shepparton branches will remain under the Hartwigs name.
Mr Hartwig said the new owners are looking to maintain continuity of workflow, including giving staff members the opportunity to transfer over with interviews beginning on Monday.
"It will be a smooth transition for everyone and the same quality service will be offered to the community," he said.
The next generation, Tim Hartwig's son Charlie, will be taking on the Queanbeyan store into the future.
"It is exciting for the next generation, and [Charlie] is excited about the prospect of building this new end of the business," Mr Hartwig said.
