The funding by Riverina Water will allow the writers group to host workshops and publish the 31^st edition of their annual FourW anthology, this year's following a water theme.

Booranga Writers' committee member Claire Baker said the grant was a "huge help".

"There's a lot of tightening of arts funding so we're trying to find ways to keep it all going, it's too important to not keep going," she said.

"So we are extremely thankful for this opportunity we have been given."

The water theme, which will carry through the monthly writing workshops, is more than just a nod to the company providing the grant, according to Mrs Baker.

"Water is a timely theme, which was part of our submission - It's a big topic at the moment with the ongoing drought," she said.

"A lot of people forget how important these kinds of art programs are.

"We want to encourage people to think about water in any form - use it as a metaphor, use it as a pure description, personal problems with drought, anything."

The next writing workshop will be held on February 15 at the Booranga Writers' Centre.
