Equex was ready to be full of bucking action for the annual Wagga Pro Rodeo, however organisers declared on Friday they had made the call to not go ahead with the event.
"Due to animal welfare in the extreme heat, we have postponed," the rodeo advised on its Facebook page.
The event was due to start at 4pm on a day the temperature in Wagga is predicted to reach 44 degrees.
The rodeo is now slated to go ahead in two weeks' time and scheduled for Saturday, February 15.
It's the second cancellation of the week due to the extreme heat, with Wagga Cricket calling off the round on Wednesday.
Wagga cricket operations manager Paul McKelvie said the organisation had a duty of care for all involved.
"We're looking at duty of care for players, spectators, umpires and curators," McKelvie said.
"With two days of 44 predicted it is the main reason for calling it early."
It comes after the final round of 2019 was cancelled due to heat concerns. Between the heat, Christmas break and the Australia Day long weekend, only two rounds have been played since December 14.
Meanwhile, Tumbarumba's annual race meet, the Tumbarumba Cup, is set to go ahead on Saturday.
The mercury is predicted to hit 41 degrees on Friday before dropping back to 40 degrees on Saturday.
"We'll continue to monitor the conditions, but level two of the hot weather policy will be in place should the forecast not change between now and then," Southern District Racing Association chief steward Jason Schultz said on Wednesday.
"There's things put in place like no parading of horses before races, and limiting the time the horses are behind the barriers.
"There's quite a bit of shade at the track and hopefully we can run the meeting."
